Menstrual health
Menstrual problems are extremely common but frequently normalised and underinvestigated. You do not have to simply endure painful, heavy, or irregular periods — these are medical symptoms deserving proper assessment and treatment.
- Heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) — soaking through pads or tampons, passing large clots, or anaemia from blood loss
- Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea) — may indicate endometriosis, fibroids, or adenomyosis
- Irregular or absent periods — associated with PCOS, thyroid disorders, excessive exercise, or stress
- Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and PMDD — severe mood and physical symptoms in the luteal phase
- Intermenstrual bleeding — bleeding between periods requires investigation
Contraception
Choosing the right contraception is a personal decision. We provide non-judgemental guidance across all methods — combined pill, progestogen-only pill, implant, coil (IUD/IUS), injectable, patch, ring, barrier methods, and emergency contraception. Fertility
If you are trying to conceive and having difficulty, early assessment is valuable — particularly for women over 35, where timely investigation and referral can make a significant difference. We assess both partners, identify any modifiable factors, and provide referrals for specialist fertility investigation where needed.
Menopause & perimenopause
Perimenopause and menopause require thoughtful, evidence-based care. We provide comprehensive menopause consultations, prescribe body-identical HRT, and support women in making informed decisions about hormonal and non-hormonal options. Women should not have to manage this transition without proper support — and they should not have to do it in a language they struggle with.
Cervical screening & preventive care
Cervical screening (smear test / Pap test) is one of the most important preventive health measures available to women. Expats often fall behind on cervical screening after moving abroad. Our doctors advise on the appropriate screening schedule in Portugal and Spain, arrange referrals for cervical screening, and provide HPV vaccination advice.
If you have moved to Portugal or Spain and have not had a cervical smear in the recommended timeframe (every 3 years in most countries for women aged 25–65), book an appointment — cervical cancer is almost entirely preventable with regular screening.
